Your Top 5 for Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV)

Your Top 5 for Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV)

Your Top 5 for Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV)

What is RSV?

Respiratory Syncytial Virus, otherwise known as RSV, is cited as being the most common cause of lower respiratory tract infections. In most cases, infections are mild and similar to that of a common cold. However, if the disease progresses to a more serious level, medical intervention or hospitalization may be required. It has been reported by the American Lung Association that there are upwards of 10,000 deaths each year in the USA due to RSV.

Symptoms of RSV

RSV typically causes mild, cold-like symptoms including congestion, runny nose, sore throat, cough and fever. Most RSV infections go away on their own within one or two weeks. If the infection progresses, breathing difficulties may be present including a wheezing cough due to inflammation of the small airways entering the lungs. If not treated through medical intervention, this could lead to a more serious complication including pneumonia or bronchiolitis.

RSV can affect adults, children and babies and is the leading cause of hospitalizations amongst infants in the USA.

Dr Zelenko’s Top 5 Essentials

Below are Dr Zelenko’s top recommended essential supplements to help support the immune system and reduce the risk of RSV infection (including covid and influenza)—all of which are available as individual supplements OR as a convenient all-in-one super formula:

EGCG (Epigallocatechin-3-Gallate)

Studies have shown that EGCG may have antiviral and anti-infective properties which have the potential to help inhibit viral replication.

Top Sources Include:

EGCG can be consumed in green tea (highest source of all teas), black tea, white tea, oolong tea, and in smaller amounts found in berries such as strawberries and blackberries, fruits including pears, peaches and apples, avocados, and some nuts including pistachios, pecans and hazelnuts. EGCG may also be taken in a convenient supplement form.

NAC (N-acetylcysteine)

A powerful antioxidant which research has shown may help eliminate free radicals, boost the immune system and reduce the risk of viral infection.

Top Sources Include:

NAC is found only in supplement form.

Vitamin D3

Studies have shown that low levels of vitamin D may be linked to an increased risk of viral infections and disease.

Top Sources Include:

Vitamin D levels can be increased by spending time in the sun, consuming seafood including rainbow trout, sockeye salmon and sardines, as well as in lesser amounts in egg yolks, beef liver, dairy and plant milk. Vitamin D may also be taken in a convenient supplement form.

Vitamin C

Numerous studies have demonstrated that vitamin C may strengthen the immune system and help reduce the risk of viral infections.

Top Sources Include:

Vitamin C levels may be increased by consuming citrus fruits such as oranges, kiwis and grapefruits, strawberries, tomatoes and cruciferous vegetables including broccoli, brussels sprouts, cabbage and cauliflower. Vitamin C may also be taken in a convenient supplement form.

Zinc

Research has shown that zinc may have strong antiviral properties and help reduce the likelihood of viral replication in the cells.

Top Sources Include:

Zinc can be found in oysters (top source), grass-fed beef and bison, beef liver, sardines, crab, turkey, eggs, lentils and in various seeds and nuts including cashews, sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds. Zinc may also be taken in a convenient supplement form.

Dr Zelenko’s All-In-One Formula

Dr Zelenko’s Z-Dtox™ contains ALL FIVE of these supplements in balanced dosages to help protect against respiratory infections and cleanse dormant viruses from the bloodstream.

More Ways to Support Health

To reduce the risk of disease and infection and promote a healthy body, it is essential to increase oxygen, nutrient and mineral levels, and support the body in cleansing the blood through various means of detoxification. When a body becomes overburdened by toxins, environmental pathogens and dormant viruses, it may be weakened in its ability to fight off infection and disease.

Consume Fresh Herbal Tea

Ginger Tea: Freshly sliced ginger root acts as a natural blood-thinner due to its salicylates content which may help reduce the risk of sluggish blood. It has also been shown to have positive effects on the immune system with demonstrated anti-inflammatory and pain relieving properties.

Lemon Tea: Freshly sliced lemon acts as an anti-inflammatory and helps flush out toxins from the digestive system and liver due to its high level of citric acid. Given the high vitamin C content of lemons, fresh cut lemon tea also helps in supporting the immune system.

Parsley Tea: Freshly sliced parsley has been shown to support the kidneys by helping to flush out toxins and lower the risk of kidney stones. This is in part due to an antioxidant called luteolin. Parsley tea may also help support the immune system due to its high content of vitamin C.

Stay Well Hydrated

In addition to helping support the body in flushing out toxins from the organs, lymph system and bloodstream, sources have cited that staying hydrated helps reduce sluggish blood flow, blood clots and toxin buildup. Drinking 8 to 10 8-ounce glasses of water each day is the optimal amount which will help support a healthy body. In addition, hydration helps keep the mucous cell membranes moist which may help protect the body from viruses and bacteria entering the body by serving as a “first line of defense” against environmental pathogens.

Increase Circulation

One of the most important ways to keep the body in optimal health with a reduced toxic load is through increasing circulation. The number one way to do this is through exercise, such as brisk walking. Light stretches, massage, warm/cold showers, warm baths or foot baths, and dry brushing are additional ways to help detox the bloodstream and move oxygen and nutrients into the cells. Natural sources of Epsom and Himalayan salt, bentonite clay and all-natural essential oils may be added to a bath to assist the body in cleansing.

In Summary

Increasing sources of EGCG, NAC, vitamin D3, vitamin C and zinc either through diet, consuming individual supplements or taking a high-quality all-in-one super formula such as Z-Dtox™ along with gently assisting the body in detoxing the blood from toxins, pathogens and dormant viruses, is an optimal way to reduce the likelihood of developing a respiratory infection, such as RSV.
